Soapstone

Soapstone is a natural stone that has been quarried for thousands of years, and it usually comes in a dark grey/black color with natural veining which are not present in synthetic stones. It is compromised primarily of talc making it highly resistant to liquids with chemicals and acid, but we still recommend to shy away from those liquids. Soapstone can withstand heat, but it is softer than other stones, making it susceptible to chips. It is also easier to scratch, but you can easily disguise them with mineral oil.

A unique trait of soapstone is it's ability to naturally build-up patina over its surface due to oxidation that results in a gradual darkening of the surface. To further enhance the patina, you must regularly oil it.

Soapstone is a good choice if you are looking for something that requires less maintenance and cleaning since you can easily clean it with mild dish soap, lukewarm water, and a non-abbrasive cloth.
